Recap: Brooklyn Basketball Weekend 2013

Posted by Pat Donohue | November 27, 2013

An estimated 200 Spartans and friends gathered at the Brooklyn Marriott Saturday night for a pre-game reception and rally before Michigan State’s victory in the title game of the Coaches versus Cancer tournament at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. The event was hosted by the MSU Alumni Association and included a lavish buffet of hors d’oeuvres and pastries.

The rally featured remarks from Greg Hauser, President of the Alumni Club of Greater New York; Scott Westerman, Executive Director of the MSU Alumni Association; and Coach Tom Izzo.

All three lauded the success so far this season of the football and basketball teams. They assured the crowd that the best is yet to come. Greg also encouraged those who don’t already do so to join in the many year-round events hosted by the local alumni club. Tom Izzo talked about the opportunity to win 2 championships in the same day (Legends Division Championship in football and the Coaches vs Cancer Classic Championship).

Our #1 ranked basketball team defeated Virginia Tech (96-77) on Friday night and then Oklahoma (87-76) on Saturday night to win the Coaches vs Cancer Classic Championship at the Barclays Center.
