Recap: 2016 Wine Tasting Dinner
Posted by Britteny Dee | June 05, 2016
More than 50 guests gathered in an elegant private room at Gallaghers Steakhouse in Midtown Manhattan for our 18th Annual Wine Tasting and Scholarship Dinner on Friday, June 3.
The diverse group of alumni from NYC and elsewhere throughout the country were welcomed by Greg Hauser, President of the Spartan Alumni Foundation of Greater NYC. After his opening remarks, Hauser introduced the night’s featured guest, Michigan State University Provost, Dr. Jean Youatt, who updated the audience on the exciting campus happenings currently taking place.
Throughout the night, guests networked and made new friends while enjoying a delicious four-course dinner that was paired with red and white wine selections courtesy of Grgich Hills Estate and former club board member Bill McPharlin Jr. Following the Provost’s remarks, McPharlin educated attendees about the history of Grgich Hills Estate and the wines served with dinner.
Jason Johnson, President of the MSU Alumni Club of Greater New York, also addressed event attendees to thank everyone for coming out and to discuss the importance of the club’s signature event.
The night culminated with an exciting live auction, run by Hauser. Auction items included tickets to the 2016 Michigan vs. Michigan State football game, a basketball autographed by Tom Izzo, a dinner-theater package, an accompanied round of golf for three people at the Whippoorwill Club and more.
Dinner and auction proceeds will support the Greater NY Endowed Scholarship Fund and the Spartan Alumni Foundation of Greater NYC. The fund helps support students from our area who attend MSU.
Thank you to everyone who attended this year’s dinner and to all who helped make the event a tremendous success. We hope to see you all again next year.
