Recap: 2014 Annual Spartan Family Picnic

Not even the threat of rain could keep the Michigan State Alumni Club of Greater New York from gathering in Central Park’s Ross Pinetum for our Annual Spartan Family Picnic. About 40 New York area Spartans gathered under the pines on Sunday afternoon, August 3, 2014, to network and socialize while enjoying sandwiches, salads, Spartan-head cookies, Green and White cupcakes and other delicious treats that were made by participating board members and families.

Numerous board members, including our club’s new president, Jason Johnson, as well as several current and incoming MSU students and other alumni were all in attendance. After a brief greeting from our new president, board members taught the students in the class of 2018, who all received MSU Alumni Club of Greater NY T-shirts and other MSU handouts, how to sing their new fight song and alma mater before sharing advice and answering questions about being a Spartan. Board members talked to new students about the importance of staying on top of their class work, getting to know their professors and much more.

Kudos to Roni O’Connor and her hard-working crew who helped make this year’s event another success and gave the new students a proper Spartan send-off before they make their way to East Lansing to begin their exciting Michigan State experience.
