NY Area Spartan of the Week: John McLane

A few Spartan questions for John McLane:

Q: What was your major at MSU and what year did you graduate?
A: BS, Natural Science (Zoology), 1966 & MBA, 1970

Q: What are you doing now for work?
A: I am a “capitalist” – now 1/2 retired, but still advising entrepreneurs and new ventures.

Q: Where do you live?
A: New Canaan, CT (same house for 34 years) – commuted 1 hour each way to NYC for several years and still get in regularly

Q: Favorite NYC restaurant?
A: Cafe Centro in Met Life — or, any one of NYC’s Irish Pubs

Q: What is best part of living in the NY area?
A: Best place in the world for business and entertainment.

Q: What is best part of being a Spartan in New York?
A: That’s changed a lot. Originally, people didn’t know the difference between MSU and that other school in MI.

Q: If you could invite 3 people from any time who were associated with Michigan State to dinner who would they be?
A: John Hannah, Biggie Munn & Fendley Collins—all dead now. I’d like to hear some details about the history of MSU sports and the Big-10 from 1945-1955—that part you don’t read about.
