New York Spartans from across all five boroughs braved the chilly temperatures on Saturday, April 28, and made the trip to Yankee Stadium to cheer on the Detroit Tigers. The Tigers, who ultimately beat their pin-striped opponents 7-5, ended their 5-game losing streak, ticking off many a spirited Yankee fan in the process.
Kathryn Vetter is currently finishing her first year at Michigan State, she is a recipient of our Michigan State University Alumni Club of Greater NY scholarship and will attend our Wine Dinner on May 18, 2012. Each year we raise thousands of dollars for our endowed scholarship fund because of the tremendous generosity of local alumni.
On April 14, 2012 the MSU Collegiate Honors Recital was held at New York’s Carnegie Hall. Michigan State Alumni in attendance witnessed dramatic musical performances in the intimate setting of the famous Weill Recital Hall.
MSU College of Music student performers included:
Charles Morris on bass trombone, and Hyekyung Lee on piano playing a soulful selection from David Gillingham’s Sonata.

The 2011 Member Survey helped the Board of Directors understand more about our membership and their opinions about our Club. It’s the first survey that we’ve conducted since 2008.
We learned a great deal from the 277 Spartans who submitted their thoughtful responses. Improvements are already underway based upon your suggestions, including more obvious Board presence at events, better game watch policies and pricing, this new website, and much more.
The State Farm Champions Classic featuring four of the top basketball programs in the country—Michigan State, Duke, Kentucky, and Kansas—was held on November 15th, 2011 at Madison Square Garden.
The MSU Alumni Club of Greater NY joined the MSU Alumni Association at a reception to welcome the Spartan Basketball team to New York City the day before the game.
