Not even the threat of rain could keep the Michigan State Alumni Club of Greater New York from gathering in Central Park’s Ross Pinetum for our Annual Spartan Family Picnic. About 40 New York area Spartans gathered under the pines on Sunday afternoon, August 3, 2014, to network and socialize while enjoying sandwiches, salads, Spartan-head cookies, Green and White cupcakes and other delicious treats that were made by participating board members and families.
On Thursday, June 26, 2014, the Big Ten Network threw an exclusive Big Ten Kickoff Party at Cipriani on the east side to welcome Maryland and Rutgers to the Big Ten and to celebrate the B10 expansion to the east coast. Frequent MSUACGNY club volunteers were chosen and attended this festive event, with catered food and drink, held on a large football field carpet with yard line markers, a goalpost, and a few rows of stadium aluminum bench seats.
This past Saturday morning, with beautiful weather in the mid 70’s and low humidity, a group of Spartans journeyed to the Bronx Zoo for a “fun-formational” tour led by zoo enthusiast and chapter president, Greg Hauser. Greg admits that zoo visits were a highlight of his childhood, prompting him to earn his degree in Zoology from Michigan State.

Sixpoint Brewery will host the B10 Block Party at Brooklyn Crab’s Reed Park Beer Garden in Red Hook, Brooklyn. This year’s edition will feature at least 4 different Sixpoint beers on draft, as well as great discounts on terrific seafood and burgers.

Held in an elegant private room at Bobby Van’s Steakhouse, the 17th edition of our annual Wine Tasting and Scholarship Dinner was another memorable night for Spartans in New York. The group enjoyed reminiscing and networking with fellow Spartans over a four-course dinner, paired with red and white wine selections courtesy of Grgich Hills Estate and former alumni board member Bill McPharlin Jr.
Deeply entrenched in Spartan tradition is the commitment to give back. Saturday, April 12, 2014 was designated a Spartan Day of Service. In this spirit, the MSU Alumni Club of Greater New York joined forces with NY Cares (New York’s leading volunteer organization) to clean, paint and revitalize one of our city’s parks from 9:30 a.m.
All Michigan State University alumni are invited to return to campus to attend Alumni Reunion Days and the MSU Spring Green and White Football Game, April 24 – 26.
The Class of 1964 will be honored as the newest 50-year alums at the Kedzie Luncheon, and are invited to attend a special celebratory dinner hosted by the 1964 Senior Class Council.
In an extraordinary display of virtuosity, the Michigan State University Wind Symphony dazzled a nearly sold-out Carnegie Hall for its February 22 appearance. The program of contemporary music featured John Corigliano’s peripatatic Eighth Symphony, “Circus Maximus, ” a performance that showcased the ensemble’s entire range of musical talent.
An estimated 200 Spartans and friends gathered at the Brooklyn Marriott Saturday night for a pre-game reception and rally before Michigan State’s victory in the title game of the Coaches versus Cancer tournament at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. The event was hosted by the MSU Alumni Association and included a lavish buffet of hors d’oeuvres and pastries.
