An estimated 200 Spartans and friends gathered at the Brooklyn Marriott Saturday night for a pre-game reception and rally before Michigan State’s victory in the title game of the Coaches versus Cancer tournament at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. The event was hosted by the MSU Alumni Association and included a lavish buffet of hors d’oeuvres and pastries.
Michigan State Homecoming is always a special weekend for Spartans. Every year the MSU Alumni Association plans numerous events for those returning to campus. Among those events is the Grand Awards Gala at which Spartans from around the world and all walks of life are honored for their accomplishments.
Last week the MSUAA Executive Director, Scott Westerman, joined our New York Spartans for a Green & White Evening, discussing how he uses social media over cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. Westerman’s recent viral campaign encouraged alumni to contribute a small donation to the Michigan Ovarian Cancer Alliance in response to the “Go Blue” written in the sky over Spartan Stadium during the Youngstown State game.
Mother Nature once again smiled on the Michigan State Alumni Club of Greater New York. Bright sunshine, a refreshing breeze, low humidity and moderate temperatures, welcomed those who attended the Club’s annual Family Picnic on Sunday, August 4, 2013 in the Ross Pinetum in Central Park.
Spartans traveled from North America to Europe, Asia, and the South Pacific to proudly display their I Spartan NY T-Shirts and the winners of our T-Shirt Contest have been announced:

Alumni young and old gathered at JP Morgan Chase on Madison Avenue on Monday, December 10 for a reception with MSU President Lou Anna K. Simon and newly-appointed Vice President of Research and Graduate Studies, Dr. Stephen Hsu.

Joan Howorth, Dean of the MSU College of Law, joined our local law school alumni on Friday night in the boardroom of Foley & Lardner LLP. The notable law firm’s Park Avenue address and stunning views of the Empire State Building from the 39th floor were the perfect setting for a little autumn hobnobbing with several of New York’s greatest legal minds.
Early Saturday morning, a few dozen Spartans journeyed to the Bronx Zoo for a “fun-formational” tour led by zoo enthusiast and chapter president, Greg Hauser. Greg admits that zoo visits were a highlight of his childhood, prompting him to earn his degree in Zoology from Michigan State.
Ben Benson’s Steak House hosted the MSU Alumni Club of Greater New York for its 15th Annual Wine Tasting Dinner last Friday, May 18, under bittersweet circumstances.
The Midtown institution, a favorite for power lunchers and red meat enthusiasts alike, will be closing after nearly four decades of outstanding food and hospitality.
New York Spartans from across all five boroughs braved the chilly temperatures on Saturday, April 28, and made the trip to Yankee Stadium to cheer on the Detroit Tigers. The Tigers, who ultimately beat their pin-striped opponents 7-5, ended their 5-game losing streak, ticking off many a spirited Yankee fan in the process.
