More than 40 alumni and friends saw a tense, fast-paced hockey game on Monday, January 25 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn as the Detroit Red Wings defeated the New York Islanders, 4-2. The game’s highlight came in the second period when former Spartan star Justin Abdelkader (2005-08) scored the goal which gave the Wings a lead they didn’t relinquish.
Want two tickets to the biggest game at Spartan Stadium since the Game of the Century vs. Notre Dame? Well, you’re in luck because we have two tickets to Oregon vs. Michigan State on Saturday, September 12.
To win them, all you have to do is submit a bid in our blind auction (bidding will start at $200 total).
New York-area Spartans gathered in Central Park’s Ross Pinetum on Saturday, August 1, 2015 for the MSU Alumni Club of Greater New York’s annual family picnic. The event had our largest showing yet, with 42 attendees.
Current board members, including club president Jason Johnson, as well as several current MSU students – many of whom are interning in NYC this summer – were all in attendance and enjoyed sandwiches, Spartan-head cookies, green-and-white cupcakes and other tasty treats.
On April 18, 2015 Spartans from MSU’s Alumni Club of Greater New York participated in the University’s 2015 Global Day of Service. Our club joined forces with the volunteer organization NY Cares, to help clean and spruce up Bissel Gardens in the Bronx. Watch to see some of our own NYC Spartans, Roni O’Connor and Zach Denes, and East Lansing visitor Nicole Hordos, among other active alumni, in this video produced by Carol Yancho.
On a beautiful afternoon – Sunday, April 19, 2015 – three groups of Spartan alumni took a sold-out, behind-the-scenes tour of the famous Metropolitan Opera House in New York City. The stories, sights, statistics and warehousing of the monumental sets included on this tour probably left most of us, and maybe a more seasoned opera-goer…blown away.
On Saturday, April 18, 2015 several New York-area Spartans (and some visiting from East Lansing) headed to the Bronx to participate in the annual SPARTANS WILL. POWER – MSU Global Day of Service.
This year’s volunteers did yard work, gardening, painting and more at Bissel Gardens, a community garden.
Regretfully, the MSU Alumni Club of Greater New York’s annual Wine Tasting Dinner event will be taking a break in 2015 as we are currently working to establish our own 501(c)(3) charitable organization.
We very much appreciate your past support of the event and our endowed scholarship fund.
Despite a busy schedule as the recently appointed CEO of Deutsch North America, Michigan State University alumnus Mike Sheldon spent a fun-filled evening in New York City with fellow Spartan alumni, and current MSU faculty members and students.
Sheldon, who graduated from MSU with a bachelor’s degree in advertising from the College of Communication Arts and Sciences, was the featured speaker at MSU’s Green & White Evening in New York City, which took place on March 12, 2015 at Deutsch Inc.’s spacious Manhattan office.
Looking to connect with other New York-area Spartans and see what they’re up to? Join us in using the hashtag #MSUNYC across social media platforms. Whether you’re posting photos at a club event, your college friends are visiting the Big Apple, or you’re tweeting quotes from a MSU Alumni tour around the city, be sure to include #MSUNYC.
Sarah Grossbart and Eric Flores to Raise Funds in Lacey Holsworth’s Honor
At just 8 years old, Lacey Holsworth captivated the country with her larger-than-life smile and unmatched optimism.
And even months after her death, the St. Johns, Mich. girl — who famously befriended former Michigan State forward Adreian Payne and lost her battle with neuroblastoma in April — is still impacting and inspiring others.
