New York-area Spartans gathered in Central Park’s Ross Pinetum on Sunday, August 7, 2016 for the MSU Alumni Club of Greater New York’s annual family picnic. The event had our largest showing yet, with 51 Spartans in attendance.
Current board members, including club president Jason Johnson, local MSU alumni and several current students and incoming freshman all came out to the park to mingle and network on a beautiful summer day.
On June 10, about 80 Spartans and friends gathered at Yankee Stadium on a beautiful night in the Bronx to watch the Detroit Tigers play the New York Yankees. Detroit fans ultimately went home disappointed as CC Sabathia and the Yankees’ bullpen shut out the Tigers 4-0.
More than 50 guests gathered in an elegant private room at Gallaghers Steakhouse in Midtown Manhattan for our 18th Annual Wine Tasting and Scholarship Dinner on Friday, June 3.
The diverse group of alumni from NYC and elsewhere throughout the country were welcomed by Greg Hauser, President of the Spartan Alumni Foundation of Greater NYC.
Two MSU College of Music faculty members will bring their musical talents to NYC in June.
Assistant professor of jazz guitar Randy Napoleon will perform at Birdland Jazz Club on June 21-25, as well as at Smalls Live on June 29-30. Assistant professor of jazz studies Etienne Charles will perform at Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola on June 28-29.
About 20 New York-area Spartans gathered at The Chester Meatpacking on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 for a happy hour celebration.
Held in the beautiful outdoor biergarten from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., the event featured $5 draft beers, $8 well drinks and half-priced select wines by the glass.
More than 40 alumni and friends saw a tense, fast-paced hockey game on Monday, January 25 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn as the Detroit Red Wings defeated the New York Islanders, 4-2. The game’s highlight came in the second period when former Spartan star Justin Abdelkader (2005-08) scored the goal which gave the Wings a lead they didn’t relinquish.
