New York-area Spartans gathered in Central Park’s Ross Pinetum on Saturday, August 1, 2015 for the MSU Alumni Club of Greater New York’s annual family picnic. The event had our largest showing yet, with 42 attendees.
Current board members, including club president Jason Johnson, as well as several current MSU students – many of whom are interning in NYC this summer – were all in attendance and enjoyed sandwiches, Spartan-head cookies, green-and-white cupcakes and other tasty treats.
About 80 New York-area Spartans, a mix of mostly Tiger and some Yankee fans, gathered at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx on June 19, 2015 to watch the Detroit Tigers take on the New York Yankees.
Although the Tigers ultimately were defeated 7-2, attendees did get to witness A-Rod’s 3,000th career hit, a bases-empty home run in the first inning, off a 95 mph pitch by Detroit ace Justin Verlander.
On April 18, 2015 Spartans from MSU’s Alumni Club of Greater New York participated in the University’s 2015 Global Day of Service. Our club joined forces with the volunteer organization NY Cares, to help clean and spruce up Bissel Gardens in the Bronx. Watch to see some of our own NYC Spartans, Roni O’Connor and Zach Denes, and East Lansing visitor Nicole Hordos, among other active alumni, in this video produced by Carol Yancho.
About 30 New York-area Spartans gathered at The Chester Midtown on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 for a happy hour celebration.
Held on the terrace from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., the event featured $5 draft beers, $8 well drinks and half-priced select wines by the glass. Attendees, who ranged from recent graduates to Spartans who’ve been out of school for decades, were able to unwind after a day at work while meeting new alumni and catching up with old friends.
On a beautiful afternoon – Sunday, April 19, 2015 – three groups of Spartan alumni took a sold-out, behind-the-scenes tour of the famous Metropolitan Opera House in New York City. The stories, sights, statistics and warehousing of the monumental sets included on this tour probably left most of us, and maybe a more seasoned opera-goer…blown away.
On Saturday, April 18, 2015 several New York-area Spartans (and some visiting from East Lansing) headed to the Bronx to participate in the annual SPARTANS WILL. POWER – MSU Global Day of Service.
This year’s volunteers did yard work, gardening, painting and more at Bissel Gardens, a community garden.
Regretfully, the MSU Alumni Club of Greater New York’s annual Wine Tasting Dinner event will be taking a break in 2015 as we are currently working to establish our own 501(c)(3) charitable organization.
We very much appreciate your past support of the event and our endowed scholarship fund.
Despite a busy schedule as the recently appointed CEO of Deutsch North America, Michigan State University alumnus Mike Sheldon spent a fun-filled evening in New York City with fellow Spartan alumni, and current MSU faculty members and students.
Sheldon, who graduated from MSU with a bachelor’s degree in advertising from the College of Communication Arts and Sciences, was the featured speaker at MSU’s Green & White Evening in New York City, which took place on March 12, 2015 at Deutsch Inc.’s spacious Manhattan office.
